Betty and Veronica: Yano is the Veronica to Takeuchi's Betty.Also, Akiko had a crush on Yano when they were in high school, but by the time they become adults it's since faded.

Yuri has had a crush on him since middle school, and Takeuchi spends most of the series trying to convince Nanami to date him. All Love Is Unrequited: Nanami fears at first that her feelings for Yano are unanswered because he still holds feelings for Nana.The Ace: Akiko is pretty, smart, good at sports, popular at school and the only character in the series that doesn't die or get terribly heartbroken.And later on becoming friends with Nanami and Masafumi Takeuchi as well. She is the only one Yano can rely on during his times of hardships. She could not bring herself to confess her love for Yano. She had grown feelings for Yano even though Aki-chan knows that Yano loves Nanami, and he just sees her as a friend. She became Yano's classmate when he transferred school in Tokyo from Hokkaido leaving Nanami behind. Her character does not appear in the anime at all. Therefore, she does not see Nanami Takahashi as a rival and she is the one who reveals Yano's whereabouts to Nanami that she is shown to have a hard time dealing with the whole story - she confesses at one point that she would be unable to wait for someone as long as Nanami did. Akiko "Aki" Sengenji (千見寺 亜希子 Sengenji Akiko) is Motoharu Yano's former classmate from Tokyo who is also in love with him, but she is well aware of the fact that he only sees her as a friend.
